Windows 8 troubleshooting

oh_no
Uh oh! Seems you have encountered some kind of problem to land here…Here are 3 ways we can think of in order to make your day better:

  1. Read our special Windows 8 help section listed below
  2. Read original (but generic) Windows 8 support on Microsoft’s website
  3. Fill in a support request

Generic principles

  • Sliding in from the right side of the screen displays the options menu (as in any Windows 8 apps).
  • Touching or clicking on the iTooch character anywhere in the App displays contextual help: App’s tutorial on the zoom out and zoom in views, chapter’s lesson in the exercise and test modes.
  • Home page
(also called “theme list”, “zoom out” view)

Each rectangle corresponds to a theme. A theme gathers between 1 and 28 chapters. The more chapters are validated, the more the iTooch head is filled with color. Touching or clicking in a rectangle zooms in to the chapter list view.

    01-zoom-out-s

Chapter list view, or “zoom in” view

In this view, the title of the chapters and the detailed results by chapter can be seen. Touching a chapter box opens the chapter in “Exercise” mode. Pinching this view exits to the Home page (Theme view, or “zoom out” view).

    02-zoom-in-s

    Practice mode (default)

In practice mode, there is no timer and you can skip questions without any penalty.
The scale on the right side gives the child an idea of how he’s doing: for each correct answer, the indicator moves up to the green zone with every correct answer; the indicator moves down to the red zone for every incorrect answer.
Lower the lever (swipe it down) to switch to test mode.
Touch the iTooch character to display clues (when available) as well as the chapter summary.

    03-exercise-correct-practice-s

    Test mode

In any exercise page, lowering the lever on the left side of the screen switches to test mode.
In the test mode, you have to answer to six questions. There is a time limit for each question; the timer is located on the right side of the screen. Touch the iTooch character to get hints as well as the chapter summary.

The grading system: all the questions have equal value when your grade is calculated.

    scores_EN

While in test mode, you can answer the chapter questions as many times as you wish; only the last grade is recorded.
Raise the lever on the right to return to practice mode.
Your scores are not recorded if you quit the program in the middle of a chapter test.

    Parameters

in every Windows 8 apps, you can access the parameters by swiping in from the right side of the screen.

    • Grading system: choose a grading system based on points or letter grades.
    • Reset app: resets all recorded grades.

How do I use iTooch with my children?

Learning should be fun: the iTooch applications are games which make learning fun.

    DJfilles

We recommend that you play with your children when they first get started with iTooch. Your participation will increase their desire to learn.

Most effective learning often takes place in short, focused sessions. Five-to-ten minutes a day are all you need to see progress! You will be surprised to see how much your child can learn (or the concepts he can reinforce) in a few short sessions each week.

Our experience has shown that if you have a tablet laying around the house, and if your child is like any of the numerous children we invited to try out the application during the development stage, he or she will likely leap at the chance to use iTooch. Encourage your child to do so!

The chapter test scores are not the most important reflection of success: we want your child to improve their skills (and to have fun while doing so).

How do I use iTooch in the classroom?

Children are naturally interested in educational games. Give them a goal, such as 2 chapters to complete within 20 minutes, and have them work in groups of 3 or 4. It is best if you have at least 1 device for every 4 students.

    Share your ideas!

Your ideas are important to us!

Improving iTooch is an exciting and never ending process. There are so many new functions that we are planning to develop. We are working hard to make these improvements available as soon as possible. Stay tuned!

You can help by letting us know what you would like us to add or change in iTooch to improve your experience!

We welcome and value your feedback. Share your ideas, comments, complaints about iTooch.

Since we receive a large number of comments and suggestions, we are unable to respond to each one individually. However, we will examine your comments carefully, and are committed to prioritize those ideas which receive a lot of positive feedback from the iTooch community.
