iOS Troubleshooting

At eduPad we are here to support as you begin to use our apps.

Is iTooch giving you trouble? You can provide feedback using the in-app feedback feature (activated in the app’s settings) or through our contact form.

It may take some time for our developers to find a way to reproduce the bug, develop a fix and publish an update (all updates go through an Apple approval process).

General Troubleshooting

Kill and restart an app
The tricky point is that, when you press the “Home” button, iOS doesn’t really close the apps , it simply puts them in “sleep” mode. To close the app, follow these instructions :

  • Press the “Home” button
  • Double tap the Home button to bring up the Multitasking bar
  • Press and hold anywhere on the multitasking bar until the icons on it start to wiggle.
  • While they are wiggling, each icon has a Minus sign symbol above it.
  • Press the Minus symbol above any app to close it down. It will not delete the app.
Delete and reinstall an app
Please note that scores, levels and badges will be lost:

  • Press the “Home” button
  • Touch and hold the app you would like to remove until its icon starts to wiggle
  • While it is wiggling, a delete symbol should appear above it
  • Press the symbol to delete the app. You may be asked to rate the app
  • Click the “Home” button to cancel or stop deleting apps

Once your app has been uninstalled, you can reinstall it for free:

  • Open the App Store
  • Search for the app you would like to reinstall
  • Hit the download button. If prompted, enter your iTunes Store account information
Reboot your device
  • Press and hold the “Sleep/Wake” button located on the upper right hand corner of your device
  • After a few seconds, the message “slide to power off” should appear
  • Slide the slider to shut down your device
  • Press and hold the “Sleep/Wake” button until the Apple logo appears
Check your app version
  • Press the “Home” button
  • Open the general “Settings” app
  • On the left column, scroll down and click on your app
  • On the right column, in the “About” section, you should find your version number

Title/In-App Purchase Management

Delete and reinstall a title
Please note that scores, levels and badges will be lost:

  • Launch your iTooch app
  • Go to your library by clicking on the orange “Plus” button, located in the bottom left corner
  • Swipe on the title you would like to remove (from left to right or from right to left)
  • A “Delete” button should appear on the right
  • Hit the button!

To re-install this title:

  • In the “X titles available for download” section, press the refresh button
  • The title you have previously deleted should be listed
  • Hit the “Download” button

Restore previous purchases
Apple will never charge you again for a previous app or in-app purchase. So if you bought an app or title and then deleted it, you can restore it for free:

  • Apps: Go to the App Store and look for your app. A “Download” button should be available.
  • Titles: Go to the Library (“Plus” button), scroll down and hit the “Restore” button
I cannot download any titles
Firstly, make sure you have a working Internet access. Our titles are usually 10-100 megabytes files, so it can take a few minutes to download them.

If the problem persists, our IT infrastructure may be over-loaded. As a result, you may have trouble downloading anything from our servers. If you are affected, here is a survival kit:

  • Make sure you have downloaded the last version of our apps
  • Kill your app and relaunch it properly
  • Reboot your device
  • Download one title at a time, avoid multiple and simultaneous downloads
  • If it still does not work, try to download your title later in the day
“This device does not support payment”
If the message “This device does not support payment” appears when you try to buy a title in your library, please check that In-App Purchases are allowed on your device:

  • Press the “Home” button
  • Open the “Settings” app
  • On the left column, click on “General”
  • On the right column, scroll down to “Restrictions”
  • In “Allowed Content”, make sure you have activated “In-App Purchases”

If you still encounter the problem, try successively one of these solutions:

  • Reboot your device (see the tutorial in the General Troubleshooting section of this FAQ)
  • Delete and reinstall your app (see the tutorial in the General Troubleshooting section of this FAQ)
  • Delete and reinstall a title (see the previous questions of this section)

App Management

Reset your data
Good news, you don’t need to reinstall the app to reset your data:

  • Launch your iTooch app
  • Click the orange “Settings” button (wheel symbol), located in the bottom left corner
  • Click on “Reset app”
  • Close and restart your app properly.

The last step is really important. If you do not know how to close and restart an app properly, please consider the question Kill and restart an app of the General Troubleshooting section.

Add a new user profile
iTooch apps do not support multi-users at this time. This feature has been requested many times by our users and is on our roadmap for 2013.
Activate the Test mode
iTooch apps offer a Practice and a Test mode. By default, when you start a new chapter you will be in practice mode. We will never activate the Test mode on your behalf. You have to do it yourself when you feel ready to take the exam. To do so, pull down the lever located on the left side of your screen.
Read the lesson summary
In order to answer some questions, you will have to read the lesson summary attached to the chapter you are currently doing: click on the iTooch character located on the bottom right-hand corner of your screen.

Sounds and Media files

Sounds are not working. What can I do?
Solution #1

  • Double tap the “Home” button
  • Swipe from left to right
  • Tap the speaker icon to the far left
  • The message “Mute Off” should appear below the play button
  • Go back to your app and see if it works

Solution #2

  • Press the “Home” button
  • Open the general “Settings” app
  • On the left column, click on “Sounds”
  • Make sure that the volume for “Ringer and Alerts” is not set to the minimum.

Solution #3

  • Press the “Home” button
  • Open the general “Settings” app
  • On the left column, click on “General”
  • On the right column, scroll down and go to “Use Side switch to”
  • Select the “Lock Rotation” option

Solution #4

  • Delete and reinstall your title (see tutorial in the App Management section of this FAQ)
  • Close your app properly (see tutorial in the General Troubleshooting section of this FAQ)
  • Restart your device (see tutorial in the General Troubleshooting section of this FAQ)
Missing sounds or pictures
You may have downloaded a corrupt version of our package (1% of our customers are affected). We usually recommend deleting and re-installing your title. If you don’t know how to delete and reinstall a package, please consider the related question in the Title Management section of this FAQ.

Free vs. Paid apps

Difference between free and paid apps
Most of our paid apps can be tested before purchase for free, downloading iTooch Elementary School or iTooch Middle School for example. The content between our free and pre-paid apps is exactly the same. The only difference is that our free apps allow you to download 10 chapters out of 50 for free to test titles before purchasing them. In addition, our free apps are not eligible to Apple’s Volume Purchase Program while our pre-paid apps are (see the question below).
The Apple Volume Purchase Program
Our free apps (iTooch Elementary School and iTooch Middle School) are not eligible to Apple’s Volume Purchase Program since they only embed in-app purchases. However, you can still take advantage of this program by buying one of the pre-paid apps listed below:

Elementary School apps:

  • iTooch 3rd Grade, including Math, Language Arts and Science
  • iTooch 4th Grade, including Math, Language Arts and Science
  • iTooch 5th Grade, including Math, Language Arts and Science
