covering 4th Grade official curriculum in Math
Fourth grade is a critical year for students in mathematics. A high level of rigor is evident in the Common Core State Standards. Key concepts that provide a foundation for future success in mathematics are taught in fourth grade math. For example, fourth grade students are asked to formalize understanding of multiplication concepts and to gain understanding of division and apply this knowledge in problem solving situations. Fractions are also an important component of 4th grade.
Students build on the prior knowledge of unit fractions to understand concepts of equivalence and perform operations with fractions. Students are exposed to decimals for the first time and must explore their relationship to fractions. Fourth graders also work extensively with two-dimensional shapes to solve problems in geometry, as well as perform measurement conversions in real-life situations. Mathematics in 4th Grade is a pivotal point for introducing and developing many skills that students will need to achieve success in higher mathematics courses, such as Algebra and Geometry.
